Going to adoption events or taking foster dogs has always made me cringe a bit. Whatever dog I have with me is likely NOT the best behaved, most well mannered or even the friendliest dog there is … but … you best believe I will have said dog under control and will ensure he/she is respectful of boundaries, for both people and other dogs. As a dog owner, that is MY responsibility.

I can not tell you how many times I’ve had dogs out at an event and people have let their dogs rush the dogs being handled by myself or other fosters, while shouting a familiar refrain of “Oh don’t worry, he’s friendly”, or, “She loves everyone”…. 😑.

Even if they are, the dog in my care might respond negatively to some strange dog  tackling them out of nowhere.

So please – remember to keep them under your control. Yes, I’d love it if everyone met my dogs because they’re awesome…but….it’s best if it happens safely and properly. We don’t want to set any of them up for failure, or worse, have a dog get hurt.

There is no such thing as a bad dog, especially when we ensure they respect the boundaries of others.
